Seminar: Leveraging Life Cycle Assessment in Mining – Advancing Sustainability in Raw Material Supply Chains

Date: May 2nd, 2025
Time: 12:00 PM (UK Time)
Location: Online (Zoom)

As the European Union advances toward climate neutrality, evaluating and improving the environmental performance of industrial systems becomes increasingly essential. Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) are a key tool for understanding environmental impacts across entire value chains and supporting informed decision-making.

This C-SINK seminar, led by Vasiliki Alexiou, Head of Project Management and Sustainability at MNLT Innovations, introduced the principles and methodology of LCA, emphasising its role in identifying environmental hotspots, enhancing resource efficiency, and guiding sustainability strategies. It focused on the applications of LCA in the mining industry, drawing on real-world examples to illustrate how it can be used to improve sustainability across raw material supply chains.

Speakers:

  • Vasiliki Alexiou, Head of Project Management and Sustainability at MNLT Innovations (speaker)
  • Dr Isabela Butnar, Principal Research Fellow at UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources (discussant)

The discussion will be moderated by Navraj Singh Ghaleigh, Senior Lecturer in Climate Law at the University of Edinburgh.
